As the Executive Director of Investigative Reporters and Editors, Diana Fuentes is helping journalists here and abroad hone their craft

Diana Fuentes has been leading the day-to-day operations of Investigative Reporters and Editors for nearly five years now. The
venerated nonprofit organization founded by writers and editors in 1975, has trained thousands of journalists on the most effective ways to dig up information, analyze data and polish their interviewing and storytelling skills.
Fuentes, a former NAHJ board member, knows well the experiences of IRE members. She spent 35 years in newspaper newsrooms, holding positions such as police reporter, statehouse bureau chief and publisher. Her newspaper career led to the San Antonio Express News, Del Rio News-Herald and the Laredo Morning Times.
As a second-generation Tejana, Fuentes grew up along the U.S.-Mexico border speaking both English and Spanish. She graced us with a few minutes of her time at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Conference in Chicago in July.
